Statement as of October 13, 2023 5:00 pm EDT
GIFCT has been deeply shocked and saddened by the attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7 and the ongoing violence against civilians in Israel and Palestine. Since then, GIFCT has been in regular ongoing communication with its member companies to support timely and effective action to remove terrorist and violent extremist content online relating to the conflict.
GIFCT activated the Incident level of our Incident Response Framework, providing regular situational awareness across member companies and support in addressing content relating to this conflict that violates their platform policies.
GIFCT employs a centralized communication system to share news and information. In this complex information environment, GIFCT is providing in-depth situational awareness briefings and tailored analysis and remains on heightened alert to emerging trends and future threats.
Each member of GIFCT has its own respective platform policies and terms of service regarding how it addresses content and activity, and GIFCT’s Incident Response Framework ensures members are able to, and encouraged to, continue to share situational awareness and receive information about online trends and content that may violate their policies.
GIFCT will continue to work with its members and stakeholders to remain alert to evolving conflict dynamics and their implications for the emergence of related terrorist and violent extremist content online.
