Charley

Membership and Programs Associate

Charley is the Membership and Programs Associate at the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). In this role, they support the Membership Advisory Program, working directly with platforms to strengthen their policies and practices against terrorist and violent extremist exploitation, with the aim of progressing toward GIFCT Membership. Charley also contributes to GIFCT’s broader programming, including Working Groups and events.

Charley brings a background in intelligence with a career focused on online terrorist and violent extremist activity. Their previous roles combined traditional research techniques with advanced open-source intelligence methods to produce analysis for technology companies, governments, academia, and civil society.

Their research has explored a range of topics including linguistic analysis of terrorist manifestos, the overlap between terrorist activity and other online harms, and the role of gender in terrorism and counterterrorism—most notably through a landmark study examining transmisogynistic narratives in the aftermath of extreme far-right attacks.

Charley holds a BSc in Forensic Studies from the University of Winchester and an MSc in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London.
