CIP declared following Glendale, AZ, shooting
May 20, 2020 by GIFCT
At 9:00 PM Pacific time on Wednesday, May 20, the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) activated its Content Incident Protocol (CIP) in response to a shooting in Glendale, Arizona.
The CIP was declared due to:
- The existence of video of the shooting, apparently produced and distributed by the perpetrator
- The video depicts murder and attempted murder, and
- The video spread from its original location and appeared on GIFCT platforms.
As a result of the CIP, videos, related images, and other clips of the shooting are being "hashed" and shared via the industry hash-sharing database. This enables companies to identify and address instances of that content that may be on their platforms, according to their individual company policies.
We will provide further updates as necessary.
